Volunteer Coordination

Volunteering for community service are a long-standing tradition in the Army. In the early years of our country's history, volunteers mended uniforms, cared for the sick and wounded, and comforted families of fallen soldiers. Today, soldiers (active duty and reserve), spouses, civilians and retirees volunteer in schools, hospitals, on sports fields, in teen centers and in many other on-post programs. We estimate volunteers donate more than six million hours of service to communities throughout the Army each year. The Installation Volunteer Coordinator, usually located within ACS, is the person to contact if you are interested in volunteering. Among the duties of the IVC are developing a job bank, recruiting, interviewing and referring volunteers, training volunteer managers, keeping records of hours, and writing volunteer job descriptions. As you volunteer, you'll learn job skills and receive training. You'll have a chance to network and gain valuable experience you can use on future applications for paid jobs. In addition, you'll have the satisfaction and pride of contributing to your community.
